By Emma ThompsonThe world’s largest fruit, peach, has just been made more palatable by a superfood that has the potential to turn into a real-world food trend.
The fruit is one of the world’s richest and most valuable fruit species, with the average price at $US1.5 billion ($2.8 billion) per kilogram.
So far, the market for it is small, but experts say it is growing rapidly and that there are more opportunities than ever before for companies to capture its appeal.
In this video, a fruit expert explains how to make your own peach-salsa drink, using the fruit’s superfood, guava fruit.
“It’s the most sought-after fruit in the world and there are hundreds of guava trees that are planted across the world,” says the fruit expert, Lucy Bremner.
“It has the highest yields of any fruit in its size.
There are many varieties, and there’s a huge variety of them.
It’s also one of those things that you can eat raw or cooked, so if you can’t eat it raw you can make it cooked and then eat it that way.”
How to make fruit salsa”There are hundreds and hundreds of varieties of guavas,” says Lucy Brawner, a market researcher for the Australian Food and Grocery Association (AFGCA).
“So you have to look for varieties that are best suited for you, and they are the ones that are most common and are most available in the markets.”
So, how do you go about getting a guava tree in your backyard?
A guava is one-fifth the size of a banana, but its flesh is much sweeter.
The flesh of a guava is rich in vitamin C and is a rich source of minerals.
This makes it good for people with anemia, heart disease and obesity.
But guava juice is more popular than banana juice because guava can be made into a drink by soaking the fruit in water for several days.
The process involves soaking the guava for several hours in a vinegar solution and then using a process known as salting, which removes water and leaves behind a sticky, yellow residue.
If you’re lucky, you can also use it to make wine, which is used to make beer.
But guavajas are a little hard to grow and grow quickly.
Lucy Brawderner, an Australian fruit market researcher, says the market has grown from just 100 guava groves in the late 1990s to more than a million today.
She says fruit-sales at fruit groves and other markets have been growing by about 1,000 to 1,500 per week, but it’s not as easy as people think.
“We have lots of guajas that have been grown in the past but they’ve all been in Australia and they’re all in different countries,” she says.
You’ve got to do a lot of work, especially when you’re trying to grow a tree in a very small area, like in the US.
“You’re basically planting the tree in one spot and you’re working in and out of it, then you’re just hoping it will grow and you don’t have to worry about it getting overgrown or diseased.”
She says it’s important to be careful with guava plants that you’re growing for the sake of the plant’s health, and that the tree is being watered regularly and kept away from light.
“There’s always a risk with growing fruit-grown guava because it can grow very quickly and it’s difficult to keep it away from the light and from the air,” she said.
Lucy says it can take up to three years for a guave to reach maturity, and it takes more than one fruit-producing tree to produce a large batch of fruit.
“That means you have a very long season, and so we don’t really get a lot in terms of harvest of the fruit,” she explains.
Guava fruit is also used to flavor food and drinks, and Brawners group estimates that about 70 per cent of the food in Australia comes from guava fruits.
“A lot of people would say that we’re the world leader in guava-fruit flavouring,” she added.
